    CLP extends free electric vehicle charging through 2013

    CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) is extending free charging for electric vehicles (EVs) at all of its charging stations until the end of 2013 to encourage more commuters to switch to low-carbon driving.

    CLP and CAPCO Welcome Second West-East Gas Pipeline Gas Supply Approval
    CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) and Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO) welcome the approval by the Executive Council (ExCo) of the Hong Kong SAR Government for the landmark agreement to supply natural gas to Hong Kong from the Second West-East Gas Pipeline (WEPII) over the next 20 years. The gas will begin arriving in early 2013, opening a new chapter in clean power generation and playing a significant role in helping to raise Hong Kong’s air quality.

    CLP announces 2013 tariff adjustment and an introduction of new Energy Saving Rebate to help low consumption customers and to encourage energy efficiency
    CLP Power today announced that the Average Basic Tariff for 2013 will remain unchanged but because of increased fuel costs and an adjustment to its Rent and Rates Special Rebate arrangement, the average net tariff increase for 2013 will be 5.9%.

    Hong Kong’s First Commercial-scale Standalone Renewable Energy System Completes on Town Island
    CLP Expects to Reduce Annual CO2 Emissions by 70,000 kg
    The Hong Kong’s first commercial-scale standalone renewable energy (RE) generation and storage system is now near to completion on Town Island. The system, started planning by CLP in 2008, includes 672 solar panels, 2 wind turbines and 576 batteries. With an installed generating capacity up to 192 kW, which is capable of lighting up 9,600 compact fluorescent lamps, the System will be able to meet the power needs of the island’s drug rehabilitation centre and its future development. CLP anticipates that this “zero emission” system can save an estimated 70,000 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 3,500 trees in the same period.

    CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (“CLP Power”) announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary CLP Power Hong Kong Financing Limited has priced USD600 million in aggregate principal amount of senior unsecured fixed rate notes, comprising USD300 million 2.875% notes due 2023 (the “2023 Notes”) and USD300 million 3.375% notes due 2027 (the “2027 Notes” and together with the 2023 Notes, the “Notes”) under CLP Power Hong Kong Financing Limited’s USD3.5 billion Medium Term Note Programme. The Notes will be unconditionally and irrevocably guaranteed by CLP Power, rated A1 and A by Moody’s and Standard and Poor’s, respectively, and listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.

    Castle Peak A Power Station Coal-fired Generation Restored
    CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) announced that the restoration of the coal conveyor structure at the Castle Peak A Power Station was completed and coal-fired operations of Castle Peak A was restored. The intensive repair work was completed in 48 days, less than the original 90 day estimate. With CLP's robust electricity supply system and well-established business continuity plan in place, a stable and reliable supply of electricity to all customers was maintained during the restoration period despite the hot summer demand.

    CLP Holdings Limited Announces 2012 Interim Results
    In the first half of 2012, the Group’s operating earnings fell 22.4% to HK$3,897 million, compared with HK$5,025 million in the same period in 2011, mainly attributable to the unfavourable mark-to-market movements of energy contracts in Australia. The Group’s total earnings, including one-off items, were HK$3,356 million, a decline of HK$2,444 million, or 42.1%, from 2011.

    CLP's Response to Media Enquiries on the Coal Conveyor Belt Incident
    In response to recent media enquiries concerning the coal conveyor belt incident at Castle Peak A Power Station, CLP would like to provide the following information:
    On 25th July, subsequent to Typhoon Vincente, a section of the coal conveyor belt structure transporting coal to Castle Peak A Power Station detached and fell to the ground. The incident caused no injuries but coal delivery to the A Station was temporarily affected as a result.
    While restoration work for the conveyor belt is now progressing which may take two to three months to resume the coal supply to the A Station, CLP's power supply to our customers remains unaffected despite of the situation and amid the hot weather.

    Hong Kong's first substation for data centres fuelling local development into a regional hub
    In recent years, the Government has been working to promote Hong Kong as a regional hub for data centres through incentives of encouraging the conversion of existing industrial buildings or sites for this purpose. To meet the growing demand for data centres, CLP will develop Hong Kong's first substation dedicated to powering data centres in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate in Chun Yat Street. Today, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new project was held, with work to be completed in the fastest time in CLP's history.
