CLP entered the India market with the acquisition of a majority stake in Gujarat Paguthan Energy Corporation Private Limited (GPEC) in 2002, assuming full ownership in 2003. Today, CLP is the biggest wind power generator and one of the largest foreign investors in the Indian electricity sector.
Operating through the wholly-owned CLP India Private Limited, our investments have grown into a diversified and climate-friendly generation portfolio, amounting to 3,056 equity MW as at 31 December 2014.
We invest in high-efficiency coal-fired and gas-fired generation. In addition to our existing wind power portfolio of approximately 1,000MW, we are also considering other opportunities in renewable energy, such as hydropower, solar energy, and transmission projects. Our flagship power plant is a 655MW gas-fired plant in Gujarat that has been in operation since 1998. We also own a 1,320MW supercritical coal-fired power project at Jhajjar in the northern state of Haryana.
Our community engagement efforts focus on addressing health and education challenges. We are dedicated to help improve the quality of life for communities where our assets are located.
CLP India will continue to power India with the highest operational and safety standards. It is our pledge to bring light and power to millions in an affordable and sustainable manner.
