To support the government’s promotion of gerontechnology and ageing in place policies, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has launched the second phase of its Community Watch & Care Service Pilot Programme. By analysing the electricity usage data collected through smart meter, the programme identifies abnormal electricity usage among the elderly, enabling social workers and carers to better understand their living conditions and provide timely support. Since its launch in June last year, the programme has partnered with 9 social welfare organisations and the Hong Kong Housing Society, and offered this innovative support service to nearly 300 elderly people and people in need.

The company’s self-developed “Innovative Demand Optimisation and Forecast Model” won the “Energy Project of the Year – International Award” from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in the United States. Another energy management project in collaboration with Hong Kong Disneyland Resort also received the “Corporate Energy Management Runner Up – International Award” from the AEE. Meanwhile, CLP Power’s collaborative project with Chinachem Group (Chinachem), the “5G-powered Cooling Load Prediction System for Sustainable Shopping Malls”, also earned a “Gold Medal” at the International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva. These accolades affirm CLP Power’s excellent performance in driving Hong Kong’s transition to a low-carbon society.

Air conditioning accounts for around 45% of electricity consumption in commercial buildings, making energy-efficient cooling systems a critical factor to reducing carbon emissions. CLPe has teamed up with Henderson Land to implement an innovative Cooling as a Service (CaaS) solution at the Manulife Financial Centre, a landmark Grade A office tower strategically located in the heart of East Kowloon. The new system is expected to improve energy efficiency by over 60% and reduce annual electricity consumption by more than 30%, supporting Hong Kong’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

As part of its efforts to beautify the community, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has collaborated with the HKCT Institute of Higher Education (HKCT) to launch the CLP Substation Beautification Project - Peer-to-Peer Coaching Programme, inviting HKCT students to join hands with secondary school students and take part in a mural design competition to beautify three substations in Sai Kung, Sha Tin and Yuen Long. CLPe has teamed up with CNOOC Guangdong Water Transport Clean Energy Company Limited (CNOOC) to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the container vessel Hanoi Express from the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd AG during cargo handling at Kwai Tsing Container Terminals on 5 June. Around 10,000 cubic metres of LNG was supplied to the vessel, marking the largest single LNG bunkering operation in Hong Kong to date and the city‘s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering with simultaneous cargo handling. The milestone operation takes Hong Kong a step closer to becoming a high quality green marine fuel bunkering centre and further consolidates its position as an international maritime hub.

Today (April 22) is Earth Day, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has acted on this year’s theme of “Our Power, Our Planet” to call on businesses across the city to promote renewable energy development in Hong Kong. A total of 23 customers in catering industry and other business sectors will offset carbon emissions from the electricity consumption of their operations today through the purchase of CLP Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). The businesses have bought nearly 130,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of CLP RECs, equivalent to a reduction of around 50 tonnes1 of carbon emissions (See attachment for full list of participating businesses).

According to the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Green Transformation Roadmap for Public Buses and Taxis, around 3,000 electric taxis are expected to be on the roads of Hong Kong by 2027. To meet the charging needs of commercial electric vehicles (EVs), CLPe has launched an EV charging service focusing on fast and super-fast charging, and offers a variety of charging solutions for commercial vehicles, including taxi fleets, light goods vehicle fleets, and limousine fleets. CLPe has also partnered with Link Asset Management Limited (Link) to expand the charging network in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. More than 250 charging bays will be in service across Hong Kong, with the majority of them in Link’s car parks in 2025.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today announced a new tariff package which will take effect on 1 January 2025. The Average Basic Tariff will increase slightly by 1.4 cents per unit of electricity to 98 cents per unit of electricity. The Fuel Cost Adjustment will remain unchanged year-on-year at 46.3 cents per unit of electricity. The Average Net Tariff for 2025 will therefore be 144.3 cents per unit of electricity with an upward adjustment of 0.98% compared with 2024.

CLP Power collaborated with Fusion HUB and St. James’ Settlement to organise six upcycling workshops for the elderly to learn waste reduction at source and thereby reduce overall waste disposal. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today (18 November) organised a visit to the Hong Kong Palace Museum for more than 300 elderly people in partnership with The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society Kowloon and the Hong Kong Christian Service. Guests were guided by CLP volunteers as they embarked on a digital journey and used their mobile phones to complete tasks while exploring the archaeological treasures of Sanxingdui in an early celebration of Senior Citizens Day. The visit was part of CLP Power’s Sharing the Festive Joy – Fun4Infinity programme which included digital technology workshops for elderly participants in October and November, where they learned about common mobile phone functions and health and exercise apps, energy saving knowledge, as well as how to avoid online fraud.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) and The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd (HK Electric) today (13 July) announced that Hong Kong’s new offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, jointly developed and constructed by the two power companies, has gone into operation. The first LNG shipment under a long-term supply agreement has arrived and the LNG was unloaded and stored in the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) vessel moored at the terminal. Regasified LNG is now being sent to CLP Power’s Black Point Power Station and HK Electric’s Lamma Power Station, raising the low-carbon generation capability and fuel supply security of the power companies in support of Hong Kong’s energy transition.

An offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal is being jointly developed by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) and The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd (HK Electric) to support Hong Kong’s energy transition. Today (13 April), a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) vessel which will be used to receive, store, and regasify LNG arrived in Hong Kong and is staying at the South Cheung Chau Anchorage. When checks and port clearance procedures are completed, the FSRU vessel will sail to the offshore LNG terminal east of the Soko Islands next week for the final commissioning of the project.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has set aside HK$100 million this year for the CLP Fuel Cost Subsidy Programme to alleviate the burden on underprivileged households. The programme, which is financed by the CLP Community Energy Saving Fund, will provide one-off fuel cost subsidies to 150,000 families in need, including the elderly, low-income families, disabled people, and tenants of subdivided units (SDUs). The Programme will open for application from 30 March.

CLP launched the “Knitting for the Community” campaign in Mainland China in 2022 by mobilising a total of 648 volunteers from Hong Kong and Mainland China to dedicate about 3,500 hours to knit over 1,000 handmade clothing items and accessories such as scarves, hats, sweaters, shoes and embroidery insoles. These items were delivered to the elderly and children on the Mainland to keep them warm in the chilling winter.

In response to a media report today concerning the Government’s discussion with power companies on the 2023 electricity tariff review proposals, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) is providing the following information:
During the discussion of 2023 electricity tariff review proposals, the Government had raised various requests to the power companies, including utilisation of the Tariff Stabilisation Fund, Fuel Clause Recovery Account, the permitted return and performance incentives under the Scheme of Control Agreement to help reduce the magnitude of tariff adjustment and impact on customers. CLP Power announced the new tariff package for 2023 after thorough discussions and prudent consideration.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today (22 November) announced its new tariff package for customers in 2023. The Average Basic Tariff for 2023 will continue to be frozen at 93.7 cents per unit of electricity – at the same level for three consecutive years. Owing to a continued increase in global fuel prices, the Fuel Cost Adjustment will be adjusted upward by 7.2 cents from the November 2022 level of 54.8 cents per unit of electricity to 62 cents per unit of electricity in January 2023. CLP Power will continue to provide the Rent and Rates Special Rebate of 1.3 cents per unit of electricity to customers in 2023. The Average Net Tariff in 2023 will therefore be 154.4 cents per unit of electricity, representing an increase of 9.3 cents per unit of electricity, or up 6.4% when compared to the current rate in November 2022. The new tariffs will come into effect on 1 January 2023.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) received an overwhelming response from customers invited to save electricity and combat climate change by taking part in its Energy-Saving Missions programme. Around 600,000 households were invited to reduce their consumption in two events in July under the programme, which provides incentives for residential customers with smart meters to adjust their consumption behaviour and reduce energy use during peak demand periods on hot summer days. A total of 300,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity was saved by 70% of the participating customers in 4 hours. The savings were equivalent to a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 110 tonnes1.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today (26 August) made public the investigation report on the cable bridge fire incident in Yuen Long which occurred on 21 June 2022. According to the comprehensive investigation and analysis, it is highly possible that a fluorescent light installed below the cross beam within a section approximately four metres from the junction between the steel bridge and the concrete chamber at Kwong Yip Street caught fire and ignited the nearest pilot cable below, with the fire spreading to the adjacent pilot and power cables.

Regarding the cable bridge fire incident in Yuen Long on 21 June, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) completed the energisation of the last of the three 132kV high-voltage replacement cables at 3am today (28 June), fully restoring the supply capability of its power grid in the affected region. The latest energisation came after CLP Power successfully energised the first and second 132kV high-voltage replacement cables on 24 June and 27 June respectively.

The inspection involved entering into the cable bridge and collecting evidence. The inspection was made possible after reinforcement work had been carried out to support the damaged bridge.

To cope with the fifth wave of the epidemic, there is an urgent need for Hong Kong SAR Government to build thousands of new community isolation facilities in the shortest period of time. Being the largest power supplier in the city, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) takes the responsibility to support Hong Kong in its fight against COVID-19. CLP Power has deployed more than 550 engineering personnel to work around the clock and connect power to 11 newly-built community isolation and treatment facilities in Kowloon and the New Territories. Mobile cabin hospitals in Tsing Yi and San Tin, as well as the community isolation facilities at United Court in Yuen Long and Kong Ha Wai were among the first batch to be connected. For one of the facilities, it took only 5 days to complete the whole process from planning and construction work to connection. Working closely with Government departments, CLP Power also laid 8 kilometres of cables to the Lok Ma Chau Loop in a record 10 days to meet Hong Kong’s urgent electricity demand for anti-pandemic facilities.

The fifth wave of COVID-19 has had a severe impact on people’s daily lives and the business environment of Hong Kong. To support the community in its fight against the pandemic, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has relaunched an electricity bill payment deferral programme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the catering and retail trades, allowing them to defer payment for two months. The company has also teamed up with various community partners and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to distribute daily necessities and anti-epidemic supplies to low-income families, elderly people, and the underprivileged.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has signed an agreement with Hang Seng Bank (Hang Seng) for the biggest and longest-term purchase of CLP Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) since the launch of the programme in 2019. Under the agreement, Hang Seng has committed to purchase close to 154 gigawatt hours (GWh) of RECs between 2021 and 2030, equivalent to a reduction of over 60,000 tonnes in carbon emissions associated with electricity1 over a period of 10 years.

CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) today announced its 2021 Annual Results. Operating earnings decreased 17.8% to HK$9,517 million from 2020, while total earnings fell 25.9% to HK$8,491 million. The drop in total earnings was primarily due to significantly lower earnings from the generation portfolio of EnergyAustralia and high coal prices in Mainland China. There were also several one-off charges including the settlement of a long-running litigation in Australia and costs in ensuring the safe operation of the Yallourn mine following the impact caused by extreme weather.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has allocated HK$80 million from the CLP Community Energy Saving Fund to relaunch the CLP Retail and Catering Coupons Programme to help the underprivileged and add momentum to Hong Kong’s economic recovery. From January onwards, nearly 800,000 eligible households have each received two coupons worth a total of HK$100 which can be spent in more than 2,800 participating retail outlets and restaurants over the next six months. While dine-in service for dinner is restricted during the pandemic, the coupons can be used for buying takeaways in most of the participating restaurants.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today (9 November) announced its new tariff package for 2022. The Average Basic Tariff for 2022 will be frozen at the same level as 2021 at 93.7 cents per unit of electricity. A sharp rise in international fuel prices, however, means the Fuel Cost Adjustment will be adjusted upwards by 10.5 cents to a total of 38.6 cents per unit of electricity in January 2022. To alleviate the impact on customers, CLP Power will provide two special rebates totalling 3.4 cents per unit of electricity. The Average Net Tariff in 2022 will therefore be 128.9 cents per unit of electricity, equivalent to an upward adjustment of 5.8%. The adjusted tariff will take effect on 1 January 2022.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (“CLP Power”) has joined the Government’s Outreach Vaccination Programme to facilitate employees on shift work or working in remote areas to get vaccinated against COVID-19 on company premises. The programme has received an overwhelming response with an enrolment of more than 1,100 people. Due to the high number of participants, vaccinations are carried out on four separate days. To encourage vaccinations, CLP offers to make a HK$200 donation to charities for each of Hong Kong-based employees and their family members who have been vaccinated with two doses, up to HK$1 million in this scheme. Time-off and hotel dining coupons will also be offered to employees who are fully vaccinated.

A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) programme by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has recorded its biggest deal after Rosewood Hong Kong committed to buy 13 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy through the purchase of RECs for six years from 2020. The transaction is equivalent to a reduction of around 4,800 tonnes in carbon emissions associated with electricity1, equivalent to around 208,000 trees planted.

CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) announced today the Group’s operating earnings for the first half of 2020 were HK$6,129 million, an increase of 12% compared to the same period of 2019. While the underlying performance of its operations remained stable, the increase in earnings was primarily due to positive changes in the fair value of energy hedging contracts. Operating earnings decreased 20.5% to HK$11,121 million, reflecting the expected lower permitted rate of return in Hong Kong, a reduction in its share of earnings in India following the strategic partial-divestment, and the continued challenges in Australia. Earnings in Mainland China and Southeast Asia were higher. The Board is recommending a fourth interim dividend for 2019 of HK$1.19 per share. Since January 2019, nearly 200,000 customers have signed up for the programme run by CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power). The programme also offers an electricity subsidy of HK$500 each for 40,000 households including elderly people, low-income families, disabled people and tenants of subdivided units with a funding of HK$20 million in this year. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has received a positive response from the public to the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, which was launched in May last year to promote the development of renewable energy and encourage low-carbon living. By the end of July this year, CLP Power had approved more than 80% of over 4,300 applications for the FiT scheme. When these projects are completed by our customers, they will represent a potential total of 62 GWh of green electricity a year – equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 15,000 households and a reduction in carbon emissions of around 30,000 tonnes a year, or the amount of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere by 1.30 million trees. With the rising numbers of applications, the FiT capacity of the new connected systems has also grown steadily over the past months.

To support rural revitalisation and eco-tourism development in the Lai Chi Wo area of the northeastern New Territories, CLP Power has completed a power supply for the remote Hakka villages of Mui Tsz Lam and Kap Tong and held a power-on ceremony today (28 May). The ceremony was attended by villagers and guests including Secretary for the Environment Mr Wong Kam-sing and Chairman of Sha Tau Kok District Rural Committee Mr Lee Koon-hung, who celebrated the arrival of the electricity supply and its potential to support the sustainable development of the two villages.

CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) is pleased to announce solid annual results for 2018. The Group’s operating earnings for the year increased 5.1% to HK$13,982 million. Total earnings decreased by 4.9% to HK$13,550 million, largely due to favourable one-off items in 2017. These figures reflected the combination of continued robust performance in our overseas businesses and dependable earnings from our Hong Kong base. They also allowed the Board to approve a fourth interim dividend of HK$1.19 a share. Total dividends per share for 2018 are HK$3.02, a 3.8% increase from 2017.

CLP Power Hong Kong (CLP Power) yesterday (31 January) completed work on the first project under its new Power Connect programme which provides subsidies to landlords of subdivided units to do rewiring work for the installation of individual electricity meters. The programme allocates HK$5 million a year for this purpose to improve the home safety and living environment of underprivileged people living in subdivided units. The Power Connect programme began in January this year with the aim of encouraging energy saving and promoting community care.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) announced today that it will have rebated to customers the refunds received to date from the Hong Kong SAR Government in relation to CLP Power’s claims against the Government’s overcharged rent and rates by 17 February 2019. As a result, the Rent and Rates Special Rebate will be discontinued with effect from 18 February 2019. Customers will be notified separately about the arrangement.
