Cares for People

Cares for People is one of our core values. The health and safety of our team members is an absolute priority. We trust and respect our colleagues, communicating openly and honestly. We value long-term relationships, treating everyone with respect and integrity.

We bring these values to life by providing support for employees to learn and achieve their full potential, and great work environments. We believe that a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture support high performance and our ability to operate effectively and we are committed to attracting people from all backgrounds and to supporting them to succeed.

We are transforming to meet and stay ahead of challenges brought by climate change and rapidly evolving technologies. We are looking for people who embrace change, value teamwork and partnership, want to break new ground and make a real impact for a brighter and sustainable future.

Support to Learn, Grow and Succeed

At CLP, we need employees who are excited about taking on new challenges and who want to keep learning and growing. To work with us, you must love working with others to solve problems, be keen to learn new skills, have an open mindset and the desire to make a difference.

We invest significantly in employee development as our people are our most important asset: they power our future success. Regardless of your role at CLP, you and your manager will meet regularly to discuss priorities, goals and learning opportunities. We provide formal training through the CLP Learning Institute, Power Academy and partnerships with leading educational institutions worldwide. Programmes on Energy Transition, Design Thinking and Data Analytics provide opportunities to learn about new markets, gain critical future skills and test those skills on real business problems.

We encourage networking and mentoring to learn from others but the most valuable experience you will get is on the job. That’s why we use structured rotations and assignments as part of our development programmes and provide opportunities for interested employees to participate in projects and take up roles in our businesses in Hong Kong, Greater China and internationally.

A Great Place to Work

Our success over the past century has relied on our deep-rooted and enduring values. When you join CLP, you join our family, dedicated to living our values:

  • CLP Cares for People, our Customers, the Community and the Environment

  • CLP Cares about Performance, Respects Laws and Standards and Values Innovation.

These values, together with our focus on operational excellence to ensure safe, reliable energy supply, are at our core. As the energy industry evolves, we are also focused on embracing innovation to optimise our operations and respond quickly to changing market and customer needs. We value new perspectives, collaboration and taking calculated risks for breakthrough improvements.

We offer competitive remuneration, retirement, medical and other benefits designed to attract, retain and reward high performers. We recognise that employee well-being and performance are closely linked, and we focus on satisfaction and promoting health and wellbeing.

We regularly ask employees how they experience CLP as a workplace, the support they get to succeed and a range of other areas important to their working life at CLP. You can expect us to implement small steps and larger plans in all areas that can be improved.

Our health and wellbeing programme, Boost, rests on four elements: physical, mental, social and financial wellbeing, offering tools, opportunities and initiatives for employees to get involved. We also offer extra support for employees through our Employee Assistance Programme. We recognise that our employees want and need to balance their work and personal lives and we offer flexible working policies, leave options and the ability to work part-time or from home for eligible roles.

Many CLP team members want to support their communities and we offer volunteering programmes, donation matching, interest group activities and more.

A Diverse, Inclusive and Equal Environment

We believe diversity is a business issue – it is about attracting the best talent from the widest possible candidate pool. It is about valuing and respecting differences, encouraging everyone’s participation and being open to discussing ideas, issues and concerns raised by anyone. We believe that the new ideas and perspectives needed to transform our business into a Utility of the Future will come from diverse teams, working together.

We have set aspirational Groupwide targets for Women in Leadership and Women in Engineering and we undertake a range of networking, mentoring and development activities to encourage women to take up technical roles and to build their careers.

We work hard to make our recruitment processes free from any bias, to ensure pay is fair, and to ensure our workplaces are free from discrimination or harassment, going beyond the coverage of Hong Kong law.
