Schoolchildren in Hong Kong have got used to a combination of e-learning and face-to-face lessons as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt normal life. CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) today announced its 2019 Annual Results. Operating earnings decreased 20.5% to HK$11,121 million, reflecting the expected lower permitted rate of return in Hong Kong, a reduction in its share of earnings in India following the strategic partial-divestment, and the continued challenges in Australia. The CLP Power Connect programme encourages residential customers to save energy year-round. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) has received a positive response from the public to the Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme, which was launched in May last year to promote the development of renewable energy and encourage low-carbon living. By the end of July this year, CLP Power had approved more than 80% of over 4,300 applications for the FiT scheme. When these projects are completed by our customers, they will represent a potential total of 62 GWh of green electricity a year – equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 15,000 households and a reduction in carbon emissions of around 30,000 tonnes a year, or the amount of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere by 1.30 million trees. With the rising numbers of applications, the FiT capacity of the new connected systems has also grown steadily over the past months.

CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) is pleased to announce solid annual results for 2018. The Group’s operating earnings for the year increased 5.1% to HK$13,982 million. Total earnings decreased by 4.9% to HK$13,550 million, largely due to favourable one-off items in 2017. These figures reflected the combination of continued robust performance in our overseas businesses and dependable earnings from our Hong Kong base. They also allowed the Board to approve a fourth interim dividend of HK$1.19 a share. Total dividends per share for 2018 are HK$3.02, a 3.8% increase from 2017.
CLP Power Hong Kong (CLP Power) yesterday (31 January) completed work on the first project under its new Power Connect programme which provides subsidies to landlords of subdivided units to do rewiring work for the installation of individual electricity meters. The programme allocates HK$5 million a year for this purpose to improve the home safety and living environment of underprivileged people living in subdivided units. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today announced the price of each unit of electricity generated by renewable energy sources under the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) scheme will be HK$0.5, with RECs available at a minimum purchase of 100 units. The certificates will be available to CLP Power customers from 1 January 2019.
Following the departure of the typhoon, the emergency service teams of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (“CLP Power”) continue the repair and power restoration works for customers. The number of affected customers has been reduced from about 40,000 on 16 September to about 7,500 as of 7am today (18 September).
Following CLP Power’s repair and restoration works today (18 September), the remaining number of customers who are yet to have their electricity restored is expected to be reduced from about 40,000 customers on 16 September to about 1,500 customers at midnight today, mainly remote villages located in the northern New Territories. It is expected almost all customers will have their electricity supply restored progressively tomorrow (19 September) except about 200 located in very remote areas at Kat O and Ap Chau areas where power restoration will require longer time.
Following the departure of Severe Typhoon Mangkhut last evening (16 September), CLP Power’s emergency service teams immediately kick-started the repair and power restoration works for customers. As of 3pm today, power supply to about 13,500 customers, mainly covering New Territories North, Yuen Long and Sai Kung, has yet to resume. According to emergency service teams, many of the affected customers are located in the remote areas in the New Territories where roads are blocked by fallen trees and debris, making access to these sites and restoration works extremely difficult.

Following the directives and continuous support from the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power), operator of Castle Peak Power Company Limited (CAPCO), announced a preliminary agreement between CAPCO and the West New Territories (WENT) Landfill contractor, a subsidiary of SUEZ, to support the Government’s policy of promoting waste-to-energy and renewable energy initiatives. Subject to the final consent under the EPD’s landfill contract by the EPD, CAPCO will install power generation units on the site which will utilise landfill gas as fuel. The electricity produced will then be transmitted to CLP Power’s existing power grid.

In response to the government's policy to increase the use of natural gas in power generation, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) is taking forward the development work to build an offshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Hong Kong waters. CLP Holdings (CLP) is pleased to announce today that a significant growth in overseas earnings has contributed to record performance in 2015. During the year, the Group’s operating earnings increased 15% from a year earlier to HK$11,533 million, driven primarily by a 29% increase in the contribution from overseas businesses. Total earnings were up 40% to HK$15,670 million. Rises in operating earnings were recorded in all of our five geographical divisions, most notably in India and Mainland China. The Board has recommended a fourth interim dividend of HK$1.05 per share for 2015. Together with the three interim dividends already paid, our total dividend this year is HK$2.70 per share, an increase from HK$2.62 on the previous year.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited ("CLP Power") received a notification yesterday (20 December) that the impact of the Shenzhen landslide incident has led to the temporary suspension of natural gas to Hong Kong through the 9,000-km-long Second West-East pipeline (WEPII) as a section of the pipeline was damaged. In the first six months of 2015, the Group’s operating earnings reached HK$5,525 million, a 16% increase over the corresponding period of last year. CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today announced that the Average Total Tariff increase for 2015 will be 3.1%. Average Basic Tariff will decrease by 1.2 cents per unit of electricity to a level lower than that in 1998. Due to increased fuel costs, Fuel Cost Adjustment will increase by 4.6 cents per unit of electricity. The Average Total Tariff will be HK$1.142 per unit of electricity. The adjusted tariff will take effect on 1 January 2015.

In 2013, the Group's operating earnings remained steady at HK$9,307 million, compared with HK$9,406 million in 2012. Group total earnings, which include non-recurring items, were HK$6,060 million, 27.1% lower than that in the previous year. The decline in total earnings was due to the non-cash impairment and other charges of HK$3,696 million in relation to a number of our assets in Australia, India and the Chinese mainland.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited ("CLP Power") conducted a major emergency drill today ahead of Hong Kong's upcoming typhoon season as part of the company's contingency measures against the massive power failures caused by storms around the world in recent years. The drill simulated the collapse of a transmission tower during a typhoon and the construction of a temporary pylon to restore power, a process that would see electricity restored 10 times faster than by repairing the damaged pylon.

The Hong Kong’s first commercial-scale standalone renewable energy (RE) generation and storage system is now near to completion on Town Island. The system, started planning by CLP in 2008, includes 672 solar panels, 2 wind turbines and 576 batteries. With an installed generating capacity up to 192 kW, which is capable of lighting up 9,600 compact fluorescent lamps, the System will be able to meet the power needs of the island’s drug rehabilitation centre and its future development. CLP anticipates that this “zero emission” system can save an estimated 70,000 kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, equivalent to the amount absorbed by 3,500 trees in the same period.

In response to recent media enquiries concerning the coal conveyor belt incident at Castle Peak A Power Station, CLP would like to provide the following information:
On 25th July, subsequent to Typhoon Vincente, a section of the coal conveyor belt structure transporting coal to Castle Peak A Power Station detached and fell to the ground. The incident caused no injuries but coal delivery to the A Station was temporarily affected as a result.
While restoration work for the conveyor belt is now progressing which may take two to three months to resume the coal supply to the A Station, CLP's power supply to our customers remains unaffected despite of the situation and amid the hot weather.
In recent years, the Government has been working to promote Hong Kong as a regional hub for data centres through incentives of encouraging the conversion of existing industrial buildings or sites for this purpose. To meet the growing demand for data centres, CLP will develop Hong Kong's first substation dedicated to powering data centres in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate in Chun Yat Street. Today, the ground-breaking ceremony for the new project was held, with work to be completed in the fastest time in CLP's history.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) today announced that the Company is increasing its tariff in response to unprecedented cost pressures after a long period of relatively stable prices. From 1 January 2012, the average Basic Tariff will be increased by 5 cents while the Fuel Clause Charge will rise by 3.7 cents. As a result, the Average Net Tariff will be adjusted to 102.8 cents per unit of electricity, up 9.2% from the current level.

CLP Holdings Limited (CLP) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary, CLP India, has successfully raised US$288 million from five international and Chinese banks to refinance part of its existing loan for its 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) power project in Jhajjar, Haryana, India. This is the first Indian coal-fired project to be project-financed by overseas lenders since the Dabhol power plant case in the 1990s. The transaction, made possible by the country’s External Commercial Borrowings (ECB) policy, also marks the first time PRC lenders participated in a project finance transaction in India.

CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP) today announced that with effect from 1 January 2010, its average Net Tariff will be raised by 2.6%. This adjustment is a net result of a rise of 2.6 cents in Basic Tariff, partially offset by a reduction of 0.3 cents Fuel Clause Charge due to the downward movement of the coal price over the year. CLP welcomes the approval for an extension of nuclear electricity supply contract by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government announced today. The approval enables the continued supply of clean power to Hong Kong from Guangdong Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station ("Daya Bay") for another 20 years from 2014.
CLP India, a wholly owned subsidiary of the CLP Group, today signed financing agreements with a banking consortium of 15 banks for its 1,320 MW (2x660 MW) power project in Jhajjar in the northern state of Haryana, India. CLP’s first substation developed for providing electricity to the Kai Tak Development Area was officially topped out today, marking the official commencement of the major infrastructure works in the area. CLP today kicked off the second year of its 5-Year Regional Tree Planting Porgramme and pledged to plant another 50,000 trees in the fire-devastated Fu Tei, Tuen Mun in 2009. CLP has entered an arrangement with Hydro Tasmania to acquire from Roaring 40s Renewable Energy Pty Ltd. ("Roaring 40s") its Mainland Chinese wind farm portfolio for approximately HK$730 million.
